The Benefits of Shea Butter

February 10, 2021

Shea Butter is a fat extracted from the nut of the African Shea tree. The process of making Shea Butter is a labour of love. The Shea nut is harvested and dried and pounded into small pieces. The nuts are roasted and transform into a dark chocolate colour paste. Which is whipped with water and the mixture is purified so the fat rises to the top and the oil settles at the bottom. The oil becomes hard and that is what we know as Shea Butter. This butter has many healing and moisturizing properties. There are so many I could name but here are my top ten benefits of using Shea Butter.

  1. It can be used as cream all over your body.
  2. Shea Butter can help reduce or heal wrinkles and stretch marks.
  3. Shea Butter can heal skin allergies or irritations like eczema and psoriasis.
  4. Shea Butter can be used to seal in moisture for natural hair.
  5. Shea Butter can be used in a hair mask for deep conditioning.
  6. It can help treat dandruff and restore moisture to your dry scalp.
  7. Shea Butter offers a measure (SPF 5-10) of sun protection.
  8. Due to its cinnamic acid and other natural properties, Shea Butter is anti-inflammatory.
  9. Shea Butter is super moisturizing and won’t clog your pores! Shea Butter ranks between 0-1 on the comedogenic scale. Non-comedogenic oils are oils that do not clog pores and have a comedogenic rating of 2 or less.
  10. It contains vitamins A, E, and F which promote circulation and cell regeneration.
